If you’ve spent more than five minutes in e-learning, you know the drill. Someone asks what you do, you give the elevator pitch, and brace for the follow-up questions.
And honestly? From friends and family, that’s fair. They’re not in the business.
But stakeholders? The people working with you on the project?
Somehow, they still manage to say the same handful of things that make every instructional designer’s eye twitch.
We’ve all heard these before:
“Can you just make it more engaging?”
“This should only take an hour, right?”
“Can we add just one more slide?”
They’re funny mostly because we’ve heard them a hundred times. So this week, we’re keeping things light and having some fun with the classic lines you’ve heard (or secretly feared).
🏆 Challenge of the Week
This week, your e-learning challenge is to design a quote card, infographic, or short interaction featuring things to say and not to say to instructional designers.
Bring your sense of humor. Tell a story. Throw in some data if you want. But above all, share the “don’t say this” line and pair it with an “Instead, say this…” version so stakeholders walk away with a better script.
🙌 Share Your E-Learning Work
You put in the effort, now make sure your work gets seen:
- Personal blog: If you have a blog, please write about your example from this week’s challenge and share the link with your submission.
- Social media: Please share your examples on LinkedIn and mention both David & Articulate using the #ElearningChallenge tags so we can help promote your work.
- Support your peers: With the new submission format, you can comment directly on each example. Try leaving helpful feedback on at least three projects this week.
- Community forums: Feel free to cross-post in the forums to give your work even more visibility.
