Using Merge Shapes for Custom Graphics #521: Challenge | Recap

🏆 Challenge of the Week

This week, your e-learning challenge is to show how you’re using the merge shapes feature in Storyline (or PowerPoint)  to create your own graphics and interfaces for e-learning.

Merge shapes is a great feature for combining shapes into something new. It’s like having a little graphic design app right inside Storyline. No need to jump into Photoshop, Illustrator, or even PowerPoint for this type of edit now.

🚀 Tips for Getting Started

Here’s how to tackle this week’s challenge depending on how much time you’ve got:

  • Start simple: Take a couple of shapes and turn them into custom buttons or icons.
  • Level up: Build a custom slide layout or navigation bar using merged shapes.
  • Challenge mode: Go all in and design a mini project where every element is built from merging shapes. This means graphics like your buttons,  icons, custom player frame, and anything else you include.

⚒️ Authoring Tools

You’re welcome to use any authoring tool you’d like this week. If you’re short on time, try quickly mocking up your ideas using PowerPoint, Figma, or your favorite graphics app.

🙌 Share Your E-Learning Work

You put in the effort, now make sure your work gets seen:

  • Personal blog: If you have a blog, please write about your example from this week’s challenge and share the link with your submission.
  • Social media: Please share your examples on LinkedIn and mention both David & Articulate using the #ElearningChallenge tags so we can help promote your work.
  • Support your peers: With the new submission format, you can comment directly on each example. Try leaving helpful feedback on at least three projects this week.
  • Community forums: Feel free to cross-post in the forums to give your work even more visibility.
