Sorting Activity not accessible
FAO Articulate
I think some of the information in this section is misleading: https://access.articulate.com/support/article/Rise-360-Choosing-Accessible-Components-to-Create-Online-Learning#inaccessible
Currently Inaccessible
This block is currently not in conformance with WCAG guidelines. We recommend not using it when creating accessible content. In case you do use it, we've provided a partial workaround.
Interactive: Sorting activity
- No accessible instructions or status messages
- If using: Use a text block to provide instructions.
I would highly recommend that this is marked as inaccessible without any possible workarounds. I have come across some clients using the interaction and attempting to use this workaround. In my opinion, there is not workaround. Screen reader users not receiving any kind of feedback when items are sorted cannot be addressed with instructions in a text block. It doesn't matter how many instructions are placed in a text block, it's never going to provide screen reader users with the dynamic feedback that is required to provide meaning to the interaction. My recommendation:

Hey Sam!
First, thank you. While we did mention not using it and that it was only a partial workaround, I understand that this could be confusing or misleading.

SamHillI'm wondering if embedding a Storyline sorting interaction might work. A more rudimentary solution I'm implementing now--for expediency--is to link add a button & link to an answer key. Not nearly as fun, but we'll see how it goes!

Hi KK-eLearning this is an option, but is not good for mobile, as Storyline content is not responsive. Storyline content scales to fit the screen, and so when it scales to fit a small screen, the text will reduce in size. You would have to build the interaction so that it is optimised for mobile, i.e text is legible on mobile. This would then mean the text is huge on tablet and desktop.

Hi Leslie! Can you recommend another interaction that would meet the same objective? I read that scenarios are now accessible. That's great! Aaaaand creating a scenario for 30+ tasks to sort might be cumbersome for learners & take more time than I have (can I get an Amen?) All ideas welcome!
Hello KK-eLearning
I'm not so great with learning objectives, but a few possibilities come to mind:
- Matching activity - still allows you to reinforce the connection between items and categories
- Multiple response knowledge check - allows you to set the category in the question and have learners choose applicable connections
- Scenario blocks - allow you to add in context or decision-making if needed
I hope this helps and I really hope others chime in that are better versed in learning objectives. 😊

Thank you LeslieMcKerchie. I'll revisit these options!
