Importing Fill in the Blank and Drag Drop from Excel

Oct 28, 2013

I was trying to see if quiz maker will allow import of fill in the blank and drag drop questions.  I don't see any mention in the text on the tutorial about it.  In particular how to indicate how the missing word is indicated and how to indicate the correct order of a drag and drop.  I see the question codes for these actions but no clear instructions on how to do it.

Hi Mike and welcome to Heroes!

For the fill in the blank questions, you'll want to designate the correct answer using the * just before the answer as described here:

  • Designate correct answers for graded questions with an asterisk (*) at the beginning.
    Example: *True

For the matching drag and drop or matching drop down, you'll want to follow the method below:

  • For matching questions, separate each answer choice and its match with a pipe (|).
    Example: Texas | Austin

For a sequence drag and drop, you'll want to place the answers in the correct order within the Excel sheet, and don't identify any with the * before the answer.

Hi Andres,

I don't believe there is a way to import post quiz review information, although that would make a great feature request.

You can include choice level feedback (for the question types that support it) as you'll see in this example:

  • For choice-level feedback, separate each answer choice and its feedback with a pipe (|).
Example: Houston | Sorry, the capital of Texas is Austin.

Hi Gina,

The pipe is for choice level feedback but the drag and drop events don't allow for choice level feedback, so you wouldn't be needing the pipe at all. If you're able to share the Excel file, than I'm happy to take a look at it. You can attach it here using the "Add Attachment" button at the bottom of the reply window.

Hi Gina,

Thanks for sending that along. So it looks like you've got a matching drag and drop set up for your second questions but you haven't assigned them to any matches and that's likely why you're getting the error message. For matching questions, you'll need to separate each answer choice and its match with a pipe (|).

Example: Texas | Austin

I see you had one pipe (|) included, but no match assigned to it, and it was only a part of one answer. If you're looking to include a number associated with them, you'd need to include that number as a part of the answer and not rely on the answer number choice.
