Adding Left and Right Arrow Keys as Keyboard Shortcut to Interactive Video

Sep 30, 2022

Hello,
I have a Storyline project that is one slide that looks functions as an animated Power Point presentation.

The slide is an interactive video. I've created cue point triggers so that the presentation moves along various points in the video by clicking the next button in the player. The previous button is also set up to send the video timeline back to its beginning.

How can I program Storyline so that the left and right arrow keys on a computer keyboard trigger the standard 'next' and 'previous' keys in the Storyline player?

TIA for any help!

You can always create a trigger to do something like next slide when user presses a key.

A few considerations:

  • Using the arrow key possibly has implications for people who use screen readers, modifying them for custom navigation may cause some issues.
  • There are navigational conventions such as the prev/next buttons on the player. Most people would expect those to move to a new screen and not jump to a point in the video.
  • I'd probably leave the default behaviors and create custom navigation foe the video.
