Base Layer Restarting

Jul 21, 2021

Our training team has requested that I hide the "Save Progress" button that I place on the slide that has the mp4 training files. In order to do this, I've added a layer that has the button and it is triggered to display if the mouse hovers over the slide. If a learner clicks the button and navigates to the Resume/Exit slide, clicks Resume, they return to the  mp4 slide but at the beginning not where they left off. If I don't have the layer element and the button is on the main slide, the mp4 progress is retained and the learner can pick up where they left off. Any ideas how to fix this so I can use the layer and hide the button AND retain the mp4 progress? Thanks!

Hello Meredith!

I'm happy to help! It's hard to offer specific advice without seeing the file, but my first thought is to include:

  • The option to Pause Timeline on Base Layer in the Layer Properties
  • Setting the When Revisiting behavior to Resume to Saved State
  • A transparent shape with a trigger to show a layer when the mouse hovers over the shape
  • A layer with two buttons and triggers for each button

I've created a 5-minute demo on how to achieve this in Storyline 360. Let me know what you think!
