I'm happy to help! It's hard to offer specific advice without seeing the file, but my first thought is to include:
- The option to Pause Timeline on Base Layer in the Layer Properties
- Setting the When Revisiting behavior to Resume to Saved State
- A transparent shape with a trigger to show a layer when the mouse hovers over the shape
- A layer with two buttons and triggers for each button
