Best practice for video and audio file location

Mar 10, 2023

Do audio, video and image files need to be on the same drive as the storyline file? What if you move the storyline file, does it link to the other files or are they imbedded? Example: I have kept video projects and files on an external drive then insert the final video file into a storyline project on C drive. Is there an issue with having the video file somewhere else? It works well enough in Review but could this cause corruption which I have had.

I'm accustom to Adobe CC which is really stable linking to assets all over the place.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for reaching out!

When you add audio and video files to a Storyline 360 project using the 'From file' option, they get added directly to the course you're working on. This means that if you add the media files to your project and delete the original files, the files will remain in the .story file.

If you use the 'Open URL/file' trigger to link to a project file, moving the target files to a different location will cause the triggers to stop working.

Let me know if you have any questions!
