CRTL + N closed my project without offering me to Save and now I have lost all my work - disable shortcuts

Oct 28, 2022

I accidently pressed CTRL +  'N' instead of 'B' when trying to make my font bold, and when I did that, Storyline just opened a new project, and just closed the project I have spent the last hour working on, without offering to Save or check if I wanted to close it without saving. This is really poor I must say. And it has happened twice now. I'm really unhappy with this. I can't believe a pop-up 'save'/'are you sure ' box hasn't been considered in this instance as a failsafe.

May I recommend you add this in to your next upgrade:

- Have a pop-up box offering to Save if you are already working on an existing project,

- Or instead, allow it open a new project but LEAVE your current project ALONE?

In the meantime if someone can please let me know if you can disable this shortcut in Storyline and if so, how to do this; I would be grateful.

Hi Miffy,

Thanks for reaching out! I understand how frustrating it can be to lose your work.

  • The pop-up asking you to save changes should appear when a change in your course has been detected. If your course has been saved on your computer, a new project will open without prompting you to save it.
  • You can try selecting file, then recent projects to open the course you were previously working on.

I hope this helps!

Hello Melissa,

I'm sorry to hear you've hit this snag when using CTRL+N; I'm happy to help! I tried creating a new Storyline project using the latest version, Build 3.82.31354.0, and saved it. After making a change, I pressed CTRL+N. I was prompted to save my changes as expected.

Pressing CTRL+N

If you're already working on your local drive, try running these steps to fix possible installation issues. If you're still not prompted to save after pressing CTRL+N, could I have you connect with us in a case so we can determine what's happening? We'll reach out soon after we hear from you!
