I've never seen this error message before when publishing a SCORM file in Storyline, but after I select the folder to publish to then click publish I get the error: The folder <title of file> is read-only, being used by another process, or you do not have the proper security permission to access this resource." Does anyone know a fix to this? Thanks!
Not knowing more about where you typically publish, my guess is that you're publishing to a network or shared drive somewhere. Try publishing to a local directory such as "C:\Temp..." and see if it occurs again.
It's fairly easy to drag the published output to a shared network location when it's finished processing.
I tried publishing to my Desktop but it was still giving the error. Oddly enough the only way to get around the error message was to change the title in the player. When I did that it decided to work and I was able to publish the SCORM.
I am getting the same error and have been intermittently for about 3 weeks, but not every time or on every course. I can't figure out a pattern or a workaround, except to have someone else in my group publish the course to our LMS. I (unsuccessfully) tried the name change idea above. Any other thoughts?
I have been receiving this same "read-only" error message the past two days. The course was imported from a PowerPoint file with audio. I created a different course yesterday with an embedded video and had no problems publishing.
There are no special characters in the course title / file name, and I tried changing the name in the player (dropped our company name), all to no avail. The title is Wynright Onboarding Site and Facility Safety Training.
I've experience the same issue. I too had a space after the final character in the Title field. It works once the space was removed. I have never experienced this before and I create lots of SCORM files.
I'm having the same issue getting the read only error and i've been able to publish to review and previously publish to LMS. Any new suggestions as to what is causing this error?
Thanks for reaching out about this! I'm sorry you're getting this error while trying to publish! Fortunately, I have a solution for you. After you click publish, check the title of the file. If there are three dots after the title, you'll have to remove those. Then, you should be able to publish with no problem. Here's a screenshot showing where those dots may be.

I was having this same issue. I couldn't figure out what was going on even after I read all the posts. Once I updated the title, I thought everything would work, but it was a no-go. However, I then clicked the ellipses next to the title box and it pulled up the properties. The name had not changed in there. Once I updated the name there, it worked as expected. Just wanted to share.
If you're still experiencing issues related to publishing caused by characters in the course title, would you be willing to share a copy of your project file here or in private by opening a support case so we can take a closer look at what's happening? We'll delete it when we're done testing!
We have just started experiencing this issue in May of 2023. We have tried all of the fixes above as well as opened a ticket. We are still getting an error when trying to publish. We are using the most up to date version of Storyline.
<Message>The process cannot access the file 'C:\Users\Desktop\OutageInquiries\story_content\6TXEJqbh9Yz_44100_48_0.mp3' because it is being used by another process.</Message>
So sorry to hear you are also receiving errors when publishing your Storyline 360 course. Thank you for sharing those details, and great call on opening a support case!
It looks like you've connected with my colleague Ronaziel. You're in excellent hands working one on one with her!
We'll continue this conversation over in your support case.

Hmmmm... Perhaps there was an oddball character (underscore, hash mark, something?) in the other title?
At any rate, glad you were able to get it fixed!

since 3.70 the output folder is created with a new method
https://articulate.com/support/article/Storyline-360-Simplified-Output-Folder-Names
storyline creates a windows folder from the "Title", but now the last char of the title is important
in windows there are special restictions for the last char of a folder (no space, no dots, ...)
for old storyline files there is mostly used the old method to create folder "<title> - Storyline output"

check the LAST char of the title - there are no multiple dots or spaces allowed anymore
Update - I removed the final word from the title field in the player - Training - and it published! Very annoying.
I had one today that gave the error and it was because there was a space at the end of my player title. UGH!
Thank you everyone for writing about this. We are currently working on a fix to prevent this from happening in the future.

Hello,
As per my post, have you tried removing any spaces at the end of the Title line on the Publish page?
Kind regards,

Hi, everyone!
I have some great news to share. We just released another update for Storyline 360. In Update 72, we’ve included important fixes and new features.
One of the fixes we’ve included is:
Projects failed to publish when their titles ended with spaces or ellipses.
To take advantage of this update, launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You'll find our step-by-step instructions here.
Please let me know if you need additional help!
Thank you!

how much longer until the fix is released? it's like a guessing game very frustrating - I've got deadlines.
Hello,
Sorry to hear that you are still experiencing this issue. The discussed in this thread was already fixed in the January 24, 2023 (Build 3.72.29654.0) release of Storyline 360.
