Exporting Storyline Files

Feb 06, 2024

Hi all.  One of the great features about Storyline is that you can import files from PPT.  However, I am currently supporting a client that wants the PPT files as a deliverable. As I'm sure everyone has experienced, I have never, ever had a set of PPT storyboards get imported, and then make it through several rounds of QC, functional testing, group trials, etc w/o changes being made.  That said, my current chore is having to open Storyline on one monitor, and open PPT on another and copy/paste the content BACK into PPT because I cannot export back to PPT. Yes, I know you can export to a word file, but that just exports screens as images, and depending on your settings you get layers, notes etc. I am searching for a way to export back to PPT, even if I have to run through several intermediate steps.  I'm doing this with a course that has 26 lessons so this could be 4 days of work unless I can find a faster way. If nobody has any suggestions, I would recommend this as a feature to be included in a future update.

I should also add that the client requires that the delivered files be EDITABLE. Otherwise, I'd just screenshot and update the PPT that way.

Thanks.

Hi Ben!

Does your Storyline course not have any quiz questions or interactivity? I'm just wondering what the reason for doing anything in Storyline is in this case, if it needs to go back to PPT and have the PPT be editable. If your course does not contain interactivity, you could just make any edits directly in PowerPoint and then, if it needs to be a package that can go into your LMS, use Articulate Studio 360's Presenter feature to publish for the LMS. Once you install Studio 360, you'll have an Articulate ribbon in PowerPoint with the ability to pull in content from the Content Library, and you can publish the PPT directly, without importing into Storyline.}

There are some additional ideas and thoughts in this thread!

Elizabeth,

Hi. It's got plenty of interactivity, but when the client says that they want something, then we don't get to question why. Like I said in my OP, a PPT storyboard that has been imported to become a storyline file NEVER makes it through multiple Quality Checks, functional tests, SME reviews, and group trials without many changes being made.  Text changes, SMES say this Knowledge Check needs to be re-written, images have to be swapped, publications and regulations may change.  I've been through the thread and looked at the member suggestions and solutions.  None of them work.  It's something people have been asking for for over half a decade, and the best solution I see offered is when Lauren Connelly says "We'll let our community members chime in to share workarounds!" because there is no official solution or indication that one is coming.
