Focus issues with text entry boxes

Jul 14, 2021

Hi,

I have two slides. Each slide has multiple layers and each layer has one data entry field. I want the focus to automatically be in the data entry field when a learner lands on a given slide/layer. Learners can click custom buttons to move between layers and when they get to the last layer, the custom next button actually goes to the next slide and then they move through the layers there. The same happens if they click the custom previous button on the first layer of the second slide.

In the published output, I'm seeing some issues with focus. The data entry is at the bottom of the stack in the timeline on every layer. The cursor correctly appears in focus in the data entry box on each layer of the first slide, but when storyline moves on to the first layer of the second slide, you can see the cursor flash up very briefly and then focus is lost. You can click in the data entry field to get it back. Any ideas why it's doing that? I've attached a sample of what I'm talking about.

The file I'm actually working on has a further issue that once you've gone onto slide two, when you go back to slide 1, focus is lost and you can't get it back by clicking. Sometimes it comes back after a few seconds, sometimes going next/prev a few times brings it back. I haven't been able to replicate that in the attached sample.

Any words of wisdom greatly appreciated!

Hi, Christina.

Thank you for sharing your .story file!

I noticed the same behavior when looking at your project, and the location of the text entry box on the timeline didn't seem to have the same effect on the layers as it had on the base layer.

I went ahead and opened a support case with our engineers on your behalf, so you should hear from our team soon via e-mail.

Hello Christina!

I wanted to share that we aren't seeing this bug, Text Entry Cursor is not focused on the slide layer when there is a trigger on base layer to show layer when timeline starts, in Storyline 360 (Build 3.61.27106.0).

If you're still noticing this bug, please make sure you're using the latest version of Storyline 360.

You can reach our Support Team in this discussion or privately in a support case.
