I'm dealing with this today because Vyond only seems to create infinite looping GIFs.
Currently, there's still no way to control how a GIF plays within Storyline or how many times it loops. The desired number of loops has to be set before the GIF is imported. That can be done in an image editor, or a handy website like this: https://ezgif.com/loop-count
I am using higher quality Animated PNG files. I create hundreds of them for other projects for 360 tours etc also and looping or play once works fine. When I create an Animated png file to only play once Storyline recognizes this. If I create it to loop Storyline also recognizes this. APNG files are far higher quality and better handing of transparency than GIF and less messy. Below is an Animated PNG I created. The background is transparent.
I was trying to work out how to do this on a standard gif and thought to add an exit animation to the gif and shorten its length onscreen via the timeline this seemed to work

@articulate: IE11 is gone, now it's time to support apng
