How to remove the hand cursor from the hot spot in the Test mode question slides?

Dec 03, 2014

Hi all,

I am relatively new to this world but enjoying eLearning thoroughly.

I am using Articulate Storyline- version 1 for a software simulation course...

At the moment I am having a problem with a small white hand that appears on the hot spot that is the correct response on certain icons on a screen cast. It is a question and has feedback slides as well if they get it wrong or correct. How can I ensure the hand mouse does not appear so the learner does not know the correct hot spot. I have tried the option on grey panel that appears when you right hands click the hot spot ..where I have already deselected the Show Mouse on Hover...but it still appears..... Any suggestions anybody. Thanks in advance

:)

Hi there, Jennifer. We have this issue documented for Storyline 360 as well. I don't have an ETA for a fix at this point. A suggested workaround is to use submit the interaction using the submit button after clicking the hotspot; although I realize that may break the flow of your test mode.

I've tagged this discussion so we can give you an update if any changes are made.

Hello Vishal and welcome to E-Learning Heroes :)

Thanks for reaching out and letting us know that you are running into a similar issue.

Do you have the trigger set to "submit interaction via hotspot"?

We do have an open issue related to the hand cursor displaying, even when having the option unchecked as you mentioned. This conversation is attached as we track user impact and so that we can share any updates with you here.

We do have a possible workaround documented:

If you want to submit the interaction upon clicking the hotspot, you can adjust the trigger to when the user clicks the submit button and the hand cursor will not show on hover.

Hi everyone - I wanted to follow up on this question as the last update appears to be about a year ago.  I'm encountering this issue as well and attempted a few of the workarounds.  I'm using Articulate Storyline 360.  Currently, I'm inserting additional "incorrect" hotspots and adding a Submit Interaction When The clicks Hotspot 2 trigger.  For now this is having the hand show regardless of where the learner is hovering.

However, I would like this interaction to allow 2 attempts before being marked as "wrong."  I've set attempts to 2 under the Design tab, but adding this extra hotspot immediately marks the interaction as "wrong" and moves to the next slide regardless of my Attempt selection.

Unfortunately this workaround is pretty time consuming to design and the end product isn't exactly what we're looking for.   It would be much easier to have the ability to uncheck Show Hand Cursor on Hover.  Any updates or additional workarounds that you can share?

It is March 8, 2023. This issue hasn't been resolved?? Its 5 years later and i am having this issue. Cursor displays as a hand in TEST mode. I even added hotspots but they don't display a hand when hovering over hotspots. I am using Storyline 360 and this was a screen recording. Any help is greatly appreciated.

February 29, 2024, and it's still an issue in Storyline 360 TEST mode. My current workaround is to go on every hotspot slide, remove Freeform Interaction, then add it back in as a new Hotspot interaction. This makes the mouse cursor as the hand cursor over the whole slide, so it's no longer giving away the answer. However, it's not accurately reflecting use of the systems we are simulating, either. We were hoping the screen recording options would make our simulations better than building with static screens, but it doesn't seem to be efficient or effective.
