If you change the story size to a smaller height, objects at the bottom of the screen do not recognize hover or click actions

Jul 27, 2021

Hi, there ...

I changed by Story size to 720 x 400 as I was writing an interaction that I wanted to put into RISE without using much vertical space.

I had 2 button shapes almost at the bottom of the screen, each of which had an On Click trigger to show a layer.

  • In some instances, the 2 buttons didn't even recognize the mouse hovering over them, (let alone a Click action).
  • In others, the objects only reacted when I hovered over the very top horizontal edge of the shape.
  • If I moved my 2 buttons to the top of the screen, they worked as you would expect.

Has anyone else noticed this 'feature'?

I'm on v3.53.25436.0

Best wishes,

Martin

Hi Martin,

Thank you for reaching out and sharing what you are seeing in your project.

I want to take a look at your project file to investigate what's happening with your permission. You can share it publicly here or send it to me privately by uploading it here. I'll delete it when I'm done troubleshooting.

Hi, there …
Thanks for getting in touch.
Ironically, the situation has rectified itself! The file where objects at the bottom of the screen didn’t respond to hover or click actions now works fine – without any modifications on my part!

This has happened a few times before, so if it DOES reoccur, I’ll send the file over immediately. It’s really puzzling. 😬

On a positive note, it seems to be restricted to my laptop, as my colleague hasn’t encountered the problem with her copy of Storyline before.

Thanks again. Wonderful product – I’m a huge fan! Great forum, too!
Best wishes,
Martin
