Layer flickering on hover

Interestingly, I have another course where I'm using an image as the hotspot to show layer and it's fine, even with the layer image over the hotspot.  It's also set to restore on mouse leave.  I'm wondering if it's because I'm using Markers?

I've now gone back to the course and replaced the markers with a shape.  And it's fine!  So it seems it's when you use a Marker as the hover to show a layer that you get into issues.

• Do you see this behavior with every project or just this specific project you’re working on?
• Does the flickering happen when viewing the course in Preview or in the published output as well?
• If you use a shape instead of a marker, does the flickering still occur?

To answer your questions - yes it happens on every project, new or existing.

It happens on both Preview and when published.

The flickering does not occur when using a shape

I am using the latest version of Storyline 360

Thanks for sharing your project file, Eric. We do have this bug documented for Storyline 360 as well.

The built-in markers are intended to reveal content in a specific way, causing overlapping behavior.

Has this issue ever been resolved as I am experiencing the same flickering action when hovering over a piece of text.  It worked fine initially but now the flickering action has appeared in the preview.

I'm happy to help! It sounds like you're seeing the flickering with text rather than markers. Are you noticing the flickering with all text or just a specific text box? If it's a particular text box, have you tried removing the state where the flickering occurs and recreating it?

I'm having a similar issue, however the problem with the layer flickering just came out of the blue. I have had to recently go back to a completed project to make some changes that have taken place and before even staring to make any changes I ran a preview and issue with the flickering has broken my project causing me to start all over If i cant figure out what's causing this issue.

I've had to create layers for hovered items in a simulator now those layers just keep flickering and therefore not allowing the actions from the hovered layer to activate the button, I would share but doing this for work so its confidential. Any help would be greatly appreciated as these changes need to be made fairly quickly.

Do you see the flickering when hovering over a marker? If so, try one of these workarounds, and let me know if any fix the issue:

• Use a shape instead of a marker.
• Make sure the objects on the slide layer are not covering the marker.
• Uncheck the "Restore on mouse leave" option.

Let me know if this isn't related to markers, and we'll determine our next step from there. If needed, we can sign an NDA to investigate your file.

I just had to update like Tom, issue is now resolved....for some reason it didn't auto update and I had to manually check for one. I'm now all up to date and the issue with the flickering has been resolved.

Since this thread goes all the way back to Storyline 2, I'd like to ask a few questions to help clarify your experience:

• Are you experiencing the flickering when revealing layers? Or are other objects such as markers involved? 
• Have you tried recreating the affected object? 
• Have you tried unchecking the "Restore on mouse leave" option?

Additionally, with your permission, we'd like to test your project file so we can get a better idea of what's happening. You can attach the .story file to this discussion or upload it privately in a support case.

• The flickering happens when revealing a layer using a marker, where the marker falls within the boundary of the layered object
• If I recreate the marker using a shape this does work correctly. However shapes of course do not have the built in icons or animations (pulse and swirl)
• Restore on mouse leave makes no difference.
• Please find example slide attached.

I can confirm that you are being affected by a known issue where a "Show layer event when mouse hovers over a marker causes layer flickering". 

There are a few workaround that we've identified, one of which you've already tested: 

• Use a shape instead of a marker.
• Make sure the objects on the slide layer are not covering the marker.
• Uncheck "Hide layer when the user hovers out" for your show layer triggers
