Moder player text and nav colors
Hi all,
I'm wondering if anyone has tried to change the text color(course title and table of contents text) and navigation elements color (play button, previous button, volume ctrl, etc.) for the Modern player. I know Storyline currently doesn't allow us to change it but perhaps someone has figured out another way? I think its great that we can now choose a custom background and accent color for the modern player, but the given colors of the elements mentioned above are much too dim (the text components don't meet accessibility standards for UI components, let alone regular text). Any help would be appreciated. I just want to change them to white instead of the beige in the photo attached (that's the course title on the background I chose). Thanks in advance!

I have this question too! Surprised no one has responded in two years!
Hello Brandon!
I appreciate you taking the time to share what you’d like to see in Storyline 360. We currently have this logged as a feature request, so I’ll go ahead and include your voice. We’ll update this discussion if this feature makes it on our feature roadmap.
Have a great start to your week! ✨

I've also had this question. I've continued to use the classic player that enables the customization of colors. That feature no longer works and the modern player must be used - but limits color options for the title and controls. Good to hear that is being considered for change.

I would like this feature too
Hello Kristen and Nisha,
Thanks for reaching out regarding the request to be able to customize the font color for the menu controls in the Modern Player.
I've added your voice to the feature report! In the meantime, if you have additional comments on how this feature will benefit you and your organization, please let me know. I'll inform our product team.

Hi Eric
The benefits being able to customise the font colour and menu controls for us are:
- Player content can match slide content colours / colour palette
- Player would have better cohesion with client branding
- If a custom background colour has been set for the player, we can ensure the player text and control colours are a colour that meets contrast standards for web accessibility,
I have also tried setting the control and font colours by editing the output.min.css file as an alternative as there was no out of the box way to do this. However I found this was not a viable option. I set the colours as I wanted by editing the CSS file and this worked fine. However if I save the edited CSS file, republish the module and then overwrite the published CSS file with my edited one the fonts and text on the slides don’t display correct and lots of text characters on the slides end up being square boxes. This would mean that the changes I made would need to be added to the CSS file each time the module is published which isn’t very practical for maintaining the module after go-live.
If there was an out-of-the-box way to do this that would be great.
There were also a couple other things I would like to be able to edit in the player.
- The sidebar and top menu buttons always display as ALL CAPS even if they haven’t been typed that way in the player. We try to use sentence case for our learning as it can be easier to read because there is more differentiation in character height (refer to this article https://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/advice/employers/creating-a-dyslexia-friendly-workplace/dyslexia-friendly-style-guide)
- If there was a way to have the left and right sides of the player match the slide background colour. This would make the slide background looks seamless and blend it to the edge of the page if the background is a solid colour. I’m working on a module that would look better if this was the case. In this module my slide background colour changes depending on the topic / scene the learner is in so if there was a switch you could turn on in the settings to have it match the background rather than set a specific colour that would be great. I also tested in the CSS file setting the player background colour to the slide background colour however this didn’t really work because I could only set the player background to one colour and I wasn’t sure how to set a trigger to change it when the learner changes to a different topic.
Normally I don’t use the player functionality and put all navigation assets on the slide so that I can control the look and feel of my module. However I am trying to use the modern player in my learning for accessibility reasons (as per this article here https://access.articulate.com/support/article/Storyline-360-Accessible-Player). This is why I would like the further options to customise the modern player settings.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
Kind regards
Nisha Hi Nisha,
