Next/Previous Buttons Triggered from Master Slide Don't Work from Scene to Scene in Storyline

Mar 08, 2023

Hi -
I'm hoping someone has come up with a workaround for a challenge I'm having.

I've created a Master Slide with a navigation menu that will appear along the bottom of the course. There are Previous and Next buttons in the menu that work fine from slide to slide within the same scene. But if I want to go from one scene to the next (or go to a slide in the previous scene), I have to do something on the slide to create that link. When I right-click the scene and choose "Link to Scene" the proper triggers are there, but they're on the slide and don't refer to the "Next" and "Previous" buttons from the Master Slide.

Is there a way that I can work around this so I don't need those navigation buttons at the slide level AND Master Slide?

Thank you!

Hello Everyone!

I wanted to share some great news! We are no longer seeing the bug that caused the Jump-to-next-scene triggers on slide masters to stop working.

Please make sure that you are using the current version of Storyline 360 (Build 3.77.30568.0). This guide walks you through installing, updating, and opening Articulate 360 apps.

Please let us know if you're still encountering the issue and we'd be happy to continue troubleshooting with you in a support case.

Hi Laurie,

I'm sorry to hear you're hitting this snag! I want to try and reproduce the issue on my end, but I'd like to ensure I have the correct reproduction steps to determine if this is a possible bug. Can you share your Storyline file with us so we can look at what you have set up? You may also share it with us privately by sending it along here

Thank you!

Hi -

Thank you both for your replies! (Sorry for my late response - I took a week off.)

I can try the variable suggestion and see if that solves the issue. (Thanks Phil!)

I've attached a Storyline file for you to take a look at. (Thanks Eric!) It's really just a storyboard at this point - just enough to test the navigation menu on the left. That's where the Next/Back buttons are that don't jump to the next scene. Hopefully it's just something that I've missed and will be an easy solution!

I appreciate both of your time on this!

Hi Laurie,

Thanks for sharing your Storyline project; it helped me visualize the issue better!

I ran some tests, and Phil's suggestion is brilliant. Unfortunately, it won't work now as the 'Jump to scene' trigger doesn't work when placed in the slide master. We are monitoring a report in Storyline 360 related to this. We'll notify you once this problem has been addressed. Here's a peek into our process:
