Playhead area select - would rather see what's going on in the timeline

Am I the only one that doesn't see any use to the feature of click-n-drag the playhead to select a block on the timeline? Of all the timeline editors I've used, this is the only one that replaces the "preview" while dragging the playhead function, with a block selector. I find it totally useless, am I the only one?

Count me in on that. Clicking and dragging the playback head to "scrub the timeline" to view a preview of that block goes back to...at least MacroMind Director 2.0, circa 1989 (for me). It was there in all of the versions of Adobe Premiere, VideoFusion, Flash, Captivate, Avid, SoundEdit, Audacity, SoundForge, and a slew of other tools I've worked with over the last 3 decades, and it's there now in all playback tools like YouTube.

The term even has an entry in Wikipedia:
