Re-try Assessment - Layers Popping Up

Jul 19, 2022

I have a 10 question (LMS tracked) assessment at the end of my course which requires an 80% mark to pass. I want to allow learners to re-attempt only the questions that are incorrect, in order to pass.

'When revisiting' has been set to 'automatically decide' for each slide. However, when re-try is selected at the end, it takes me to the 'correct' or 'incorrect' layer of each question instead of allowing a re-attempt of the incorrect only questions. When I click 'continue' it simply progresses to the next question and its relevant outcome.

I have attached the file and screenshot of my current settings.

Please help! Thank you in advance.

Hi, Ayesha.

Thank you for sharing the .story file!

The order of triggers is very important in Storyline. On your Results slide, the first action that happens when the user clicks the Retry button is they jump to slide 1.3:

This means the other triggers never execute. If you move the Jump trigger to the bottom of that list, it should fix the issue!

On a side note, I also noticed all your questions have five attempts, but you don't have a Try Again layer. If the user gets the incorrect answer, they will need to click five times before they get any kind of feedback. It might be a good idea to create the layer or to change the attempts to one so the user immediately receives the incorrect feedback layer.

I hope this helps!

Hi Maria,

Thanks for looking into this so quickly. Moving the order of triggers worked!

I want users to re-attempt questions after results are submitted so I have an 'incorrect' layer (below) for any wrong answers. This pops up after the submit button is clicked and re-try is allowed when results are reset for incorrect answers upon completion. I hope this is right.

Try again/incorrect layer

Thanks again for your assistance!
