Reset Results Trigger not working correctly

Jan 25, 2022

I have a quiz with a handful of questions and want learners to be able to go back and only complete the incorrect questions again in order to get 100%.

On the 'Failure' layer of my results slide I have inserted two triggers:

1. Reset results (with the tick box "Reset only incorrect questions" selected).

2. Jump to slide [quiz question 1] when the user clicks on Retry button.

However, the course keeps defaulting back to the first question regardless of if it was answered correctly or not on the initial try.

Subsequent questions that were answered correctly are then skipped and the 100% results calculation is working fine if the learner succeeds in passing the quiz the second time, it's just the defaulting to the first quiz question that I want to fix.

Is this a storyline glitch? Or is there something else I need to do to get the reset results trigger to recongnise the correct status of the first quiz question?

Note: I can get this working (sort of) with a series of complicated variables but I want to avoid this if possible as I have multiple quizzes throughout this course and other similar ones and don't want to have to set up numerous variables across all these activities.

Hi, Kathleen.

Thank you for reaching out!

What you described sounds similar to a bug our team has reported where the option to "Reset only incorrect questions" briefly shows the first question slide when users retry the quiz.

I added this discussion to the report so we can update you when we have news to share.

If your first question is not just "blinking", but it's staying until the user clicks next, then one thing to check is the When revisiting property, under Slide Properties. It should be set to Automatically Decide:

Let me know if this works!

Hi

Yes, changing the slide properties to 'Automatically Decide' has helped
somewhat. Now my quiz is just blinking on the first question before jumping
to the first incorrectly answered question. Looking forward to hearing
about any fix for the blinking issue but in the meantime thanks for telling
me about the halfway fix.

Regards

Hi, Kathleen.

Thank you for confirming what you're experiencing after changing the slide properties!

I just wanted to add a quick note: it looks like your signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove it by clicking 'Edit' below your response. Here's a quick Peek 360 video if you need help.
