Screen Reader not reading slide text or variable text

We have created a slide that asks you to type 3 words into three text boxes. The words are captured as variables. The screen reader reads this slide perfectly.
When you click the submit button, it advances to another slide with a text box with explanation text and the list of three words typed in the previous slide. The focus order is correct, but the screen reader will not read any of the slide's text. The yellow focus order is around the entire slide, so tabbing is not possible to individual screen items, yet when the "continue" button shows, I can tab to that object. (Which is the last item in the focus order) Any idea why the slide loses the focus order on each item?

Hi Todd, and thanks for reaching out!
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing an issue with the screen reader not reading the text on your slide. I'd like to ask a few clarifying questions to help me better understand the issue.
Learners use their screen reader navigation keys (e.g., Down and Up arrows) to move through all text and interactive objects on the slide, listening to each item along the way.

Kelly, we test everything on SCORM cloud. We are using Jaws and NVDA's latest versions in Chrome. I'll upload it in a support case.
