Second Quiz Attempt Score Not Reporting Back to LMS

Aug 31, 2015

I have a quiz that I made in Storyline with 32 questions of multiple formats.  The quiz works fine, and reports to the LMS fine on the first attempt.  If the user fails the first time, then goes back to re-try, the second result does not report to the LMS.    The results slide will show the "Congratulations, you passed" layer, but the 2nd attempt results doesn't report to the LMS.  What am I doing wrong?

On the results slide properties, under "Options" i have all options checked, including the last option, "Allow user to retry quiz."

In case this helps, here's how the triggers are set up on the results slide.  Does this have to do with the Retry button?  The only action on that button is to reset the results.  It doesn't take the user back to the first slide though.  I'm not sure that would have anything to do with the way it reports to the LMS though.

Hi Teresa,

It's up to the LMS if they'll accept another score and update it accordingly within the tracking. Have you confirmed with your LMS that this is an option or if there is a particular setting you need to use within the LMS? Also, in regards to your "retry" triggers - how is the user getting back to the start of the quiz? You may want to look at including a "jump to slide" trigger after the reset results trigger so that the user is able to be directed back to a particular point to pick up where they left off.

Thank you Ashley, I was wondering if I should add the "jump to slide" trigger.  I'll do that now, but I don't think that'll help the LMS take the most recent score.  I'll ask our LMS administrator, and if I were a betting woman, I'd bet they'll tell me it's an authoring tool setting.

Hi Teresa,

There isn't a setting in Storyline to tell the LMS to take the latest score or highest score, but they may tell you that. You could look into sharing some additional information with them such as how it behaves at SCORM Cloud (an industry standard for testing LMS content) or the data being transmitted to your LMS by enabling LMS debug mode.

Hi! I know this is an old post but I have a similar problem... I would like my learners to be able to improve their score (even if they had a % higher than the passing requirement on their first attempt).

I am testing on scormcloud and I see that the score of the second attempt is not submitted on scormcloud. The first score is the only one that is tracked.

I have tried anything I can think of : a "submit results" trigger only on the base layer, and a "submit results" on the success layer at the start of the chronology (in the attached files)

Anyone could help? :)

Hi, Janet.

Thank you for reaching out!

While it sounds like this could be specific to your specific LMS, it would be interesting to test it in  SCORM Cloud. Check out this step-by-step article!

If it works in SCORM Cloud, I would advise you to reach out to your LMS for help troubleshooting why the grades are not being sent on the second attempt. You can also take a look at this article for a different approach

If you still see the same behavior in SCORM Cloud, my recommendation would be to open a support case here, so we can take a closer look at your settings.

Let me know if this works!

Hi Tamster 123,

Sorry to hear you've hit this snag!

Have you tried testing your course in SCORM Cloud as Maria suggested above? If you're experiencing the issue in SCORM Cloud, I'd be happy to look at your file to help troubleshoot. You can upload it here or share it privately in a support case. We'll delete it from our systems once the issue is resolved.

Alternatively, if the course plays as expected in SCORM Cloud, I'd recommend contacting your LMS administrator for further assistance.

I hope this helps!
