Set Initial state on multiple slides all at once?

Mar 24, 2023

Hi

Our team is creating a rapid-design template with a facilitator. We're hoping someone can help us. I have added pictures beside descriptions and what we hope to do.  I also included the .story file.

Thanks

The template is built with all the slides (200+ slide options) having a character object on it with the states set up like this.

Note: Poses may change based on the slide layout, but they would all have the same state names. I have triggers and a variable set that will choose the chosen facilitator when the timeline starts on each slide, but I want the designer to be able to see their choice on the slide as they are building without having to go to preview or publish to see the character change.

This is not about how the learner will see the lesson. It is for the Instructional Designer and getting to see who they want as their choice in a slide or story view.

I know the designer can set the initial state to the character of their choice, and then it will show in all views:
 • Slide view,
 • Story view,
 • Preview mode and
 • Published

But to do this on all slides (at least 50) every time/lesson this template is used, it's time-consuming and defeats the purpose of this template for rapid designing.

I want to be able to set ONE trigger or variable or code that will execute setting the initial state to one of these custom name states on all slides within the project in one "click."
Triggers are set to choose the facilitator on this one slide for making the selection once. But this only works for seeing the chosen facilitator in preview mode or when published.
This is the variable that I have set up for the lesson template.
Each slide that has a facilitator has the following:
 • A character object on the slide named facilitator
 • Facilitator has 4 custom states (Thomas, Jet, Sheila and Sarah)
 • The default state is normal, which displays an outline
 • Slides having these triggers.
Slide view, when I have the initial state set to Thomas on each slide, they will show Thomas while I am designing and in preview mode. The same goes for Story View; as a designer, I can see my chosen character when the initial state for all slides is set to THOMAS. Regardless of who the variable is set to.
