Kath;

when you set up a results slides for your questions it has a timer option on it.

When you have the questions you want for a quiz done insert a new slide.  In the quiz slide area there is a tab for results slides.  That allows you to tell it what questions are in your quiz and how to display the scores.  When you select a results slide it will ask you what questions you want to include in the results and at the bottom is an option for setting a time.

Hi!  We want to use the timer as well.  Our goal is to provide a series of questions that need to be correctly completed within a certain time period.  If they are not, they have to start over.  If they complete the questions within the allotted time frame, they move on to the next slide/section.  Is this possible?

Is it only in 360?

Hi Leslie,

The timer is not going to do what I need it to do, so I have decided to do something different. There are 11 hotspot question slides. If the user chooses the wrong hotspot, they have to start all over and are sent back to slide one. What I am unable to do is reset the previously answered slides so they can answer them again. It is currently set up as a quiz with 10 point for correct answers. I don’t need scores for this – it’s not actually a quiz. Perhaps that is the issue but I cannot figure out how to set it up outside of a quiz. Would you kindly help me?

Thank you,
Mary

Hi Mary,

We can certainly try to help you out.

I'm still not clear which version of Storyline you are using.

If you could share a sample .story file of what you have created, perhaps we could better assist.

It looks like your email signature came through when you replied via email. You can remove that if needed by clicking ‘Edit’ beneath your response. Here’s a quick Peek video if you need help.

Leslie,

I am sending this for a 3rd time. Hopefully you receive it this time.

Thanks,
Mary

Hi Mary,

Looks like you are still replying via e-mail.

This does 2 things:

1. Does not allow your attachment to post in the forums

2. Includes your e-mail signature line

When you receive this reply, be sure to Click View (not Reply) to pop directly into the forums.

Once in the forum discussion, you can edit your replies above to remove your signature if needed and use the 'Add Attachment' option in the reply window:

When I use a timer on a quiz and the user fails to complete in time they have the option to Try Again. However, when they try again, even if they do it in time and get all questions right they still go to the Failure layer. Is there a way around this? Is seems that Storyline 360 does not allow a retry where the results are reset when using a timer.

Ren Gomez

Hi William,

That’s odd that it still sends you to the Failure layer. I tried to replicate and was able to retry the quiz successfully multiple times.

On your Try Again button, check that your Reset results trigger is before any other trigger so that it properly resets.

If that’s correct, it would help to take a look at your .story file to see if anything else is getting in the way of your quiz retry.

Are you able to share a copy of your file with us? If so, you can upload at this link using the Add Attachment button or you always have an option to share privately with our Support Engineers. Either way, we'll delete it when done testing.

Hi Anupama,

I just responded to a similar question here, but it looks like this is a different sample file.

I took a look and I can see that you have a trigger on Slide 1.2 to adjust the 'timer' variable.

Should this be happening when the timeline ends on the slide? It looks like it's not specified as the slide timeline:

  • Can you explain a bit more about what you are expecting to see on each slide with the 'timer' reference?
  • When does this timer get incremented?
