Storyline layers not appearing on some tablets

Jul 30, 2023

I have a navigation tutorial where our new learners have to click the red boxes to learn about the navigation controls for their device. When the learner clicks on a box, the box outline turns green and a layer appears with a pop-up description.  Once they have clicked on all the boxes and they've turned green, a green box pops up saying you can proceed (because the next button is now enabled).

When the course is previewed in Review on my testing tablet it works as expected. However, once the course is uploaded into our (Absorb) LMS I don't see the layers pop up. The box outlines change from red to green but there's no informational box showing.

Our trainings are done on tablets and my tablet is acting different than my boss' tablet. It's the same type of device (Lenovo tablet), same LMS (it's a Tin Can file), same course - but the layers just don't show up on mine. It works just fine on the boss' tablet.

We're rolling out training next week and I'm concerned about the inconsistent functionality of this tutorial and the possibility that some of our locations may have a tablet that acts like mine - adding no value to the navigation tutorial.

Any ideas what could be causing these different experiences?

Hello Cas,

Happy to help!

I'd like to ask a few questions to help clarify your experience.

  • Since you mentioned that your course works properly when it is published to Review 360, have you tried testing how your course behaves in a different LMS to see if the issue is specific to your LMS? Here's how you can test in SCORM Cloud to compare.
  • Is your Android tablet updated with the latest updates available
  • Have you tried restarting the Android tablet where the issue was observed?
  • Are you able to test using a different browser that's installed on the device? If so, are you able to replicate the behavior?

If you are able to replicate the behavior in SCORM Cloud, please open a case with our support team here so we can take a closer look at what's happening. Kindly include the details of the mobile device that you used for testing so we can test the behavior as accurately as possible.

Looking forward to your response!
