Storyline not saving TMP files

Jan 04, 2019

Hello All,

My Articulate Storyline 360 is not saving TMP files (in the AppData\Roaming\Articulate\Storyline folder) even after enabling the setting of saving AutoRecovery information after every 10 minutes.

I need TMP files in order to recover the corrupt files. Am I missing on something?

Best Regards,

Sushil Suryawanshi

Hi Sushil,

Temp files are only created for Storyline files when Storyline crashes or unexpectedly closes. You would need to manually save the .story file at least once to begin the autosaving every 10 minutes for the purposes of autorecovery, and you'd want to check that files are saving locally and adhering to the other guidelines here.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Thanks Ashley! I have been following these guidelines, and have worked on many files in last 2 months and naturally, all those files were saved several times during their development. Still, my (AppData\Roaming\Articulate\Storyline) folder has nothing but merely 2-3 files of which the latest one dates back to around a month back. I m not understanding why the temp files are not being saved at. What could cause this? Any PC level settings needed? Can't guess.

Hi Sushil,

That's the correct file path, and where I'd expect to see the temp files. I'm not aware of any specific PC settings that would impact this, but our Support Team is happy to work with you one on one to take a look!

I'm happy to follow along in your case too - would be curious to find out what went wrong here!

I'm having the same issue as Sushil. Was a solution ever found on this? I've been working on a file for about two weeks. It's been saved multiple times every day during that time. There are no temp files of the project in my AppData\Roaming\Articulate\Storyline folder.

It's very important that I'm able to recover an earlier version of this file. It's also been published to Review, and that version contains some needed information that was accidentally removed. I know that it can't be recovered from there, but I'm hoping there's a way to find at least one temp file.

The temp files are only there when it closes unexpectedly, otherwise, Storyline cleans up after itself the next time you open the file. The temp files are not an alternative to using version control or a backup system that includes versioning.

Where do you save your files, if they are local windows may have previous versions available and if you use Sharepoint or dropbox, previous versions will be available.
