Storyline Output to PDF?
Hello,
First-time poster, brand new e-learning designer here. I see tremendous value in this community. Thank you!
Question: I have been asked to convert the output of a training to a PDF document. Is that possible? A former colleague created it so I only have the output files. Does anyone know if this can be done and if so, how?
Thank you!!!

Hi, Maria,
If you had the source Storyline file, it'd be simple. Just publish to Word, edit that file as desired, and then save it as a PDF.
If you only have the published course files, it takes a little more work. The way I've done this is to step through the published course, and capture each slide as an image (for example, using SnagIt). For interactive slides, I capture each step of the interaction.
For "course guides" that will be available to users for reviewing the content, I paste the images into a PowerPoint file, one image per PPT slide. The PPT can then be saved as a PDF.
- Depending on the design, etc., I might cover up some elements on the slides with shapes that have the same color as the background. For example, because the images for one interactive slide will be on multiple slides in the PPT, I usually cover up any "slide # of #" info. That avoids confusion between the slide number as it in the course and the slide/page number in the PPT/PDF. I also cover up any instructions about what to click for interactions.
- If there are hyperlinks in the course, I add transparent shapes with the link.
- You could also add notes if that seems necessary.
I've also prepped audit/review files that need more details about how a course works. For those, I typically paste the images into Word, add the necessary notes, and then save a PDF copy.
