That's probably what most people would do. Personally, in the slide layer properties I'd allow the other tabs to show because it seems a bit odd to have them disappear.
You can show them and then set it so people can't interact with the base layer if you don't want them to click on a different tab while in the layer.

You are right Tom. Disable action is neater than Hide action.
