Word translation export split's up sentences and words where it shouldn't

Sep 14, 2022

Hi all,

I hope someone can help me with the following:

One of our translation agencies contacted me with an issue. When I export certain Word translations from one of our e-learning courses, the translation column sometimes splits up the sentence, or even a single word, into different cells (see attachment). I have no idea why this happens. I red that with previous versions of the language export option this could be caused by the formatting that this sentence has in the module itself (bold, italic, etc.). But in our case the sentence or word has no formatting what so ever. At least not that I can detect.

The translation agency gets a bit frustrated with this, because it is really annoying to translate a sentence to a different language, while the sentence is split between cells. This will cause issues with the grammar of the target language.

Any suggestions?

Harm

Hi Harm,

Thanks for reaching out!

If you prefer your text to not get split into different cells, try disabling the new Word translation workflow in Storyline 360. Doing this will revert the translation functionality to legacy mode, so you'll notice a difference in how the translation file is populated afterwards.

Let me know if this works for you!

Hi Joe,

Thank you for your response and your solution! I visited the page you are mentioning, but I somehow missed the part about reverting the translation functionality back to legacy mode. This is very helpful.

Still, (sorry for being critical) I am wondering why the new Word translation workflow is splitting up sentences where it shouldn't? As already mentioned in my first post, there wasn't any reason this should happen in my example. Is there anything we can do to prevent this from happening in other modules?
