How to make star wars-style text animation in Storyline

Sep 02, 2021

Hi Heroes community!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm working on a storyline project and one faculty member has asked for a star wars style animation for text on a slide.  I've been playing around in the animations but haven't been able to figure it out, so I thought I'd see if anyone else has tried or done something similar.

They want the text (a list of references) to scroll up, getting wider across the screen before fading out as they scroll and exit.

I'd be very grateful for any tips or advice.

Cheers,

Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

You've got to love a good pop culture inspiration for a project!

An easy solution would be to create a video of the Star Wars-style crawl animation outside of Storyline 360 and then import it in.

We have a tutorial on the Articulate 360 YouTube channel that covers creating this kind of effect in PowerPoint. It's a few years old, so the user interface for PowerPoint has changed since then, but the approach still works. Once the animation is all set in PowerPoint, all you'd have to do is export the file as a video and then bring it into your Storyline project.

Another option is to search for Star Wars into crawl generator sites. Just input your copy and the site will quickly generate your customized crawl video. They often have a fee for downloading the finished video or removing the company's watermark from it, but it could be the quicker option if you have a small budget for this.

I hope this helps. And if you're able to share it, I'd love to see the final solution you go with.

Thanks so much Bianca!  I will watch the video and give it a go.  I did find an online site where you can plug in your text and it creates it in the exact star wars style format.  Either way, I'll let you know what the faculty decides to go with.
I really appreciate you sharing your knowledge!
