Accessibility shortcuts not working

Hello,

Per this article:

https://articulate.com/support/article/Storyline-360-Accessible-Player-Controls

it says  the buttons work no matter where the keyboard focus is currently located in the course. However, they don't seem to be working at all:

Ctrl+Alt+R Replay slide - what should it do? It doesn't seem to do anything. Is this for video/animation or should it reset the slide to the initial state?

Ctrl+Alt+, (comma) previous slide - doesn't work
Ctrl+Alt+. (period) Next slide - doesn't work

1. I tried these with and without NVDA and these buttons don't seem to do anything. Is there something I'm missing?
2. I also tried creating my own hot keys (right/left arrow) for Prev/Next, and they only work when not using accessible keys. Is this standard?

Thanks,

Frances

  • Hi Frances!

I'm happy to help! Here's a two-minute video of the keyboard shortcuts behavior.

You don't need to have a screen reader running when using keyboard shortcuts, as the shortcuts will work without a screen reader. If you're interested in creating your own hotkeys, you'll want to use the trigger in Storyline; when user presses a key.

    Here's a screenshot of a sample trigger.

If you see different behavior on your end, would you mind sharing which browser you are using? It would also be helpful to know if you're using a Mac or Windows computer.

  • Hi, yes I created my own hotkeys using a trigger as you have described. It is my understanding that a screen reader will override the key commands using their own key commands (which makes sense). However, I was anticipating the key commands I mentioned above to work without a screen reader - but they don't work in any situation. I'm using a Windows computer. I tried this using the Chrome browser.

      Hi Frances!

The keyboard shortcuts should work with or without a screen reader. Thank you for sharing which computer and browser you're using. Have you tried using Firefox or Edge to see if that makes a difference?

I really appreciate your help in troubleshooting this issue, Frances!

  • Hello,

I just tried Edge and Internet Explorer - doesn't work there either. Interestingly though, I discovered that hyperlinks from text don't work in IE, but they do in Edge and Chrome. Sigh....
