Accessible Text and Screen Reader

I am creating a training that needs to be 508 accessible for a screen reader. I thought if I activate or check the box for Object is visible to accessibility tool that the screen reader would pick this up. However, when I preview the training, my keyboard tabs do not pick up the text.  The tabbing for the screen reader works for the Next button that I created, though. So, am I missing a step with the text fields?

  • Hi Rubina,

I appreciate you sharing what you are working on along with a sample file so that I could take a look.

I was able to confirm that NVDA is reading off the slide content as expected:

This information matches what I see in the Focus Order for your slide:

So, let's dive into how to navigate and customize this information.

    1. You mention that you were not able to access the content when tabbing and this is expected behavior. If you'd like to navigate interactive and text elements on the slide, you'd want to use your arrow keys.

    2. Based on how the content was read by NVDA, you may want to customize the focus order to include only the items you want included.

Ah yes, I forgot to do the focus Order before I attached the file. But even with the Focus Order and using the arrow keys, I cannot pick up the text fields. I sent the project to one of my end users who is visually impaired and he could not pick up the text using his NVDA.  So my next question is...how is your NVDA set up?

      Hi Rubina!

I've also tested your course using NVDA, and I am not running into any problems interacting with the text boxes. Are you using the up/down arrows?

Here's a 3-minute screen recording of my test. Let me know if you have additional questions!
