Advice needed. Directing learners to external link and capturing completion
Hello everyone,
I'm looking for advice on designing a course structure that involves both an external activity and and an internal completion step.
Here is the situation:
- Learners need to leave the LMS course to visit an external site where they complete required training and earn a certificate.
- After, they are supposed to return to the LMS course to complete a short quiz/attestation question that confirms completion and directs them to email the certification to the appropriate contact.
The challenge I am running into is that many learners complete the external site requirement but don't come back into the LMS course, and the course eventually becomes overdue.
Has anyone built a course flow or template that effectively brings learners back from an external site to finish the attestation step? I'd love to hear any design tips that makes it clear that their are multiple steps to complete. Simply stating it in the course has not worked.
Thanks!

Last year I built something like this, but most was done in the LMS platform. I developed a blended learn course. The learner had to take a Web based class. At the engine of that course, I had one slide telling them what they had to do, and how they had to do it. Then there was another web course they had to take after the outside course. Last I put rules it that sent notifications after each step. It was a little tricky at first and I had several trail runs before I got it to work.
I think you might be able to get it to work with the last slide as instructions and maybe some notifications sent after the WBT is finished.
Good luck
