AI Avatar generation in Storyline
Hi there,
I am currently using HeyGen for avatar creation. I started this about 1.5 years ago. The stock voiceover quality is good, and the stock avatars also good. At the time I started this, I tried to use the Storyline voiceover and found it severely lacking.
Now with the recent changes to Storyline, including the ability to insert an avatar, I'd like to try it out to see if it can replace HeyGen.
The interface exists in Storyline, but when I try and create an avatar, after hitting the "generate voiceover" button it looks like it's doing something but the voiceover is not generated.
I then realized it has something to do with credits, I went online and saw that it's possible to make a test video, but it defaults to the Rise interface. To be honest, I've made hundreds of courses, but only in Storyline - basically for LMS integration.
...so when will the AI generation actually work in Storyline, and how does the credit system work?

Hi WilliamRyan-dba,
Thanks for laying out your setup so clearly, and for explaining how HeyGen has worked for you over the past year and a half. It sounds like you’d like to see whether Storyline’s avatars can replace it, and a voiceover button that looks busy but returns nothing makes that hard to judge.
I can clear up the credits piece. Generating a voiceover doesn’t use credits, because AI audio is included with Articulate 360 AI, so credits aren’t what’s stopping it. Credits are only used when you generate the avatar video itself, and only when the generation completes successfully.
Editing or duplicating a video doesn’t use credits unless you regenerate it, and if your organization’s credits run low or run out, you’ll see a message in the product. You can read more about how credits work and their rates.
You can create avatars directly in Storyline from the Insert Avatar icon in Slide View, so there’s no need to switch to Rise to try it.
To help figure out why the voiceover isn’t generating, could you tell me which Storyline build you’re using and whether any message appears after you click Generate voiceover?
If it keeps happening, a support case with those details would let our support team take a closer look at your project.

I generated 9 avatars using hundreds of credits just a week before the release of the updated avatar functionality (more natural speech, tags). Would Articulate be willing to credit us so I can re-generate using the newest engine? I feel if we had advance notice this was coming out then we would've waited to render.
Hi JohnStroup-bbeb,
Thanks for explaining what happened, and I appreciate you taking the time to share the timing. Spending hundreds of credits on nine avatars just before a more natural-sounding engine arrived, when you didn’t know it was coming, is frustrating, and I can see why you’d want to regenerate them.
Credits are used when an avatar video generates successfully, and regenerating a video uses credits again, so I can’t promise a credit for the avatars you already created. Since this depends on your account, a support case with your account details lets our team look at your situation.
When you do regenerate, previewing the voiceover with your character before you generate the video can help you avoid extra regenerations.
