Alternative text not showing up in NVDA
Hi guys,
I'm having an issue with a slide. I have added alternative text to the four buttons displayed on the screen, but the screen reader (NVDA) doesn't read them.
I have tried various solution...
Give this a try:
- Select a button, open Edit States, select the Normal state.
- Click the rectangle itself (not the label or the image inside it), right-click, Accessibility, tick "Object is visible to accessibility tools". The alt text is already there.
- Leave the inner label and image unticked so nothing is announced twice.
- Repeat for the other three buttons, then do the same for the text rectangle on each of the four layers.
Thank you very much, DShaw. It worked! Is there a rule that says we need to make the alternative text of the biggest form in our object's state visible so that the screen reader will read it, even if we put the right alternative text in the focus order?
Glad it worked. It's less about the biggest shape and more about which object owns the states. When you build a button by adding a label and an image into a rectangle's Normal state, the rectangle is the object. The label and image are extra objects that live inside that state. They're separate things with their own accessibility settings.
