Animation By Paragraph Bug

I frequently use the Animation by Paragraph option in Storyline to sync text in a bulleted lists with the narration. However, I occasionally encounter issues when I adjust the bullets individually on the timeline. At times, the bullets will jump order. For example, while I'm adjusting the bullets, I'll set bullet 1 and 2 in place. While I'm adjusting bullet 3, bullet 2 and bullet 3 will swap places.

Has anyone else experienced this? It seems like there is a bug.

  • Hi DaijaJohnson-69,

Sorry to hear that you ran into this issue.

I tried to replicate this behavior, but I couldn't observe any issues with how the paragraphs behaved in the timeline. I also don't see other users who have reported this issue. Here's a recording of my test for your reference.

I may be testing the behavior differently, so would you mind making a Peek 360 recording of it for my reference? This will help me test this more accurately to determine if it's a bug or something design related.

I've encountered a similar issue, where paragraph elements appeared to arbitrarily jump order. Turned out that the timeline is just super-sensitive to paragraph rows, and will make an assumption that you wish to reorder rows with the slightest movement. I've learned to slow my workpace down when adjusting paragraph rows in the timeline so I can carefully adjust the element on a row horizontally whilst triggering the "jump" to reordering less often. NONE of the other timeline-based tools I use (Premiere, Aftereffects, Camtasia, Animate, Character Animator, Blender) have adjustments that are nearly as janky as Storyline 360's.
