The way Jacqueline describes it, it could be done pretty simply if you don’t need the learner to interact with any specific thing on the slide.
Set the objects (with their animation) to show on the timeline at the appropriate moments. Create a trigger to pause the timeline just before the first object appears. Cover the whole page with a filled shape with a high (96 - 99%) transparency. Create a Trigger that pauses the timeline when the shape is clicked, and another one for each animation that pauses the timeline when the animation completes.
If you want the learner to click on a specific object and interact with it, you have to place it above the shape.
About the same number of steps as creating it in Ppt.
