Audio on multiple layers, and using a toggle on/off button

Hopefully  someone can help,

I've looked for something similar in the community and not finding this exact issue.

I have a toggle button (audio icon) on the slide master.  then use triggers to turn audio on/off if the user does not want to listen to the narration.

On some of my slides I have multiple slide layers, with audio narration on each.

I can't seem to get the audio to play only the audio for that layer. it will play the base layer and slide layer's audio when I click the toggle button again.

Do I need to create a  different audio variable T/F for the slide layers?

  • Hi Rhonda!

We're happy to help! We actually have an article that explains how to create this in Storyline 360. You'll need variables and states to create this interaction. Here's the link!

Please let me know how it goes!

  • It seems like they were looking for a way to toggle the audio on layers as well as the main time line.

I am looking how to do this as well.

Is there instructions somewhere on how to do this?

I have custom audio buttons and need to always see all the layers.

  • Hi Redwood Developer,

Thanks so much for reaching out!

Have you checked out the link that Lauren referenced earlier in this thread? If not here's the link!

Please let us know if you have any other questions!

  • Hi there, thanks for the reply. I did check out the link, but it doesn't work where there is audio on multiple layers. That is what I am looking for instructions on.

      Hello Redwood Developer!

You're correct; that article doesn't include information on if there are multiple layers. I'd like to have our Support Engineers take a look at your course, so I've opened a case on your behalf. You should see an upload link where you can share your .story file with us.

You'll hear from our team shortly!

  • Hi..... I have the same request - I have a course that has various layers, and audio on all of the layers. I would like the learner to be able to toggle the audio on and off as required. Is there a way to do this without the base slide audio playing when a layer is displayed?

      Hello Sharon!

Yes! You could include a trigger that calls on a variable to determine if and when the audio should play. Is it possible that you could share the slide with us so we can offer specific steps on how to create this type of trigger?

You can attach it to this discussion or privately in a support case.
