Bullet points are different sizes across flash cards

Hi, I'm having an issue where the bullet points are different sizes and misaligned on some of my flash cards. I am using the same font properties on the cards but some end up with bullets that are too big and poorly aligned.

    Hi there, if you are copying and pasting the text in, sometimes hidden markup could be carried over. Try highlighting the text on the card and click the Clear Formatting icon in the text formatting toolbar. Or you can copy it to something like Notepad and then copy it back out from there.

      Yeah, I've tried clearing the formatting, but I end up with the same problem.

  • It looks like you have space above where the text starts (could be a glitch from copy and pasting). Can you try to click in the blank space above and delete?

    It's not a copy paste problem. It happens if I just type text in. It's ok to start:

    But the problem happens if I try to set the text to be the same size on both cards.

    The bullets don't seem to get resized with the text.

      I think you are correct; the bullets are not included if you re-size the text.  I was experimenting with this because I had not noticed this before, but it's much more obvious if you switch to a numbered list rather than bullets.  I did not see a way to control the bullets/numbers.

  • Hi Madelayne,

    Thanks so much for reaching out!

    In flashcards, the initial font size is determined by the amount of text on each card, and the bullet size is based on that initial font size. While you can adjust the font size after entering your text, there currently isn’t an option to resize the bullets separately.

    One of our community members shared a possible workaround here that you may want to check out!

      Unfortunately the method used in this video no longer works. The author marked the video and depricated and states, "Yes unfortunately Rise changed their 3rd party text editor, preventing this kind of inline style."

      There are many text formatting issues in Rise that have been around for several years, including this one.

        Hi, Madelayne!

        Thanks for following up and for pointing that out. I’m sorry the workaround I shared is no longer available!

        I understand your frustration with this and the broader text formatting limitations you’ve encountered in Rise 360. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and feedback with us, and have logged this internally.

    Hi guys I may have a new solution, pretty simple just using 'manual bullets' like this: •
    I did a screen recording showing the issue and this solution in action. Madelayne I think it may work for your example you showed with short bulleted items.

    Hi,

    Phil, thanks for the reply.

    I work at a university, and the content needs to be accessible. Workarounds like this break accessibility. By manually adding bullets the underlying code is no longer structured as a list.

    Using the bullets function, we get structured HTML that is accessible:

    By manually typing bullets, we get HTML that is incorrectly structured as paragraphs:

    Other places where I run into formatting problems are in titles and some activities (the matching one for sure). I work on a lot of technical content. Sometimes I need text to be subscript, or superscript, or italic, and the option isn’t there. A commonly used workaround that was shared with me is to search for “italic text generator” online and use that to make italic text (or superscript/subscript). This gives Unicode italic text that you can copy-paste into your course. Besides the visual inconsistency, my screen reader (NVDA) does not read these Unicode characters correctly.

    Example 1 – Labeled graphic:

    Example 2 – Lesson titles:

    Example 3 – Matching exercises:

    The only place that I have found a workaround is for accordion titles. In the text I can add <i></i>, , or   tags to style the text as needed.

    For example, in the editor:

    In the final course, it works:

    I've tried this technique in other Rise blocks, but unfortunately it doesn't work there.

      Madelayne sorry I totally neglected accessibility. The only other thing I can recommend is adding a CSS theme component to your exported courses. The css would would like this to force a font size of 16px on the flipped card text and bullets.

      li.flashcard .flashcard-side__description {
        font-size: 1.6rem;
      }
