Can someone help me see why the title of this slide seems to overlap the title to another slide?

Hello everyone,

I wonder if any can help me understand this: One of my slides appears to have 2 titles overlapping each other. I think this may be because I'm a newbie and the way I've been copy/pasting/deleting slides has resulted in some confusing slide numbering. Is there something I can/should do to fix this? Is it/will it cause any harm if I leave it? Attached is a screenshot of it in storyview.

  • Yes, it is very likely to cause problems, or more precisely, to indicate probable problems, Use the Add Attachment button below to attach your .story file, and someone can take a look at it.

  • Hi Kathleen,

Thanks so much for reaching out! Sorry to hear you're running into this issue in your project. Happy to help!

In order to better understand I have some clarifying questions:

    • Are you saving your file locally to your computer?
    • Do you experience this happening when you import your content into a new .story file?
    • Are you running the most recent update to  Storyline 360 (Build 3.68.28887.0)?

As a first stepI recommend updating Storyline 360 to the latest version. Here's how:

    Update Authoring Apps

In addition to Walt's recommendation above, you could send along your file in a support case our Support Engineers would be happy to take a closer look at your file.

    Hope this helps!

Update: I tried importing it to another file and the problem persisted.

  • So strange! I can see it on mine. I have several times deleted one of the slides and copy pasted the other into a new slide. And when I do, and the slides don't appear overlapped on each other (in Story View) when I try to get slide 1.13 to jump to slide 1.12 (I know, bad numbering) they appeared overlapped again and I can't get to slide 1.12 (question 3 slide). Does that happen on your end?

  • Furthermore,  when I delete one of the overlapping slides and copy/paste it elsewhere, whenever I create the trigger to jump to it they become overlapped again. Question 1.11 should be the slide that comes up when the user clicks "no" on slide 2.5. I tried duplicating slide 1.12 (Question 3) and then deleting it where it is overlapping slide 1.11 When I create the trigger on slide 1.13 to "jump to slide 1.12 Question 3 when the user clicks continue" it makes 1.12 overlap slide 1.11 again.

  • Kathleen, I see what you see, so you are not imagining things. I haven't had enough time to find a problem yet, but it's real.

Here's one thing I just learned: if you preview the whole project, everything works perfectly. I was previewing just the selected slides around the "problem slide". In that case, the slides being over each other impacted what I could see in the preview. But it's definitely a bug with Articulate and I'm hoping they will send a bug report to their developers.

  • Hello Kathleen,

Great call on opening a support case with our team. I can see that my colleague Luiza is already working with you to troubleshoot the issue. Your case is in good hands, and we'll the conversation there!

Hello, I am having the same issue. This happens when I have several branching interactions and the slides from one interaction overlap with the slide of the other. For some reason the branch of the line does not auto widen to accommodate the increased material. This makes it almost impossible to access the slides that are covered. They will perform normally when published but are a pain to work with. I was able to make a work around by making a separate scene. Perhaps there is a limit to the width of one scene?

Thanks for reporting that you're also running into this, Heather! That behavior sounds strange, and the community can better help if we can look more closely at your Storyline project and how the slides are set up. The workaround you applied is the same solution suggested by Luiza for Kathleen's case, so good job finding that out!

Do you mind attaching your project to this discussion so we can see what factors contribute to this behavior? You can also share it privately in a support case; we'll delete it when we're done testing!
