Can you clear a text entry field on click?

Is there a way to set the text entry field to erase the visible variable when the user click into the text entry space? I have it set to say "Type your response here" in the text entry field, and our testing group finds it irritating that you have to delete that text first before being able to type your own.

Thanks Heroes!

  • Glad to hear that Sarah, thanks for sharing your update. You almost got me on that one :) Just let us know if you need any further assistance.

  • I'm glad that this older conversation is still able to help. Thanks for sharing, Michelle.

  • Hi! I'm using Storyline 3 and been trying to do this.

I want to clear the input in the data entry field on Slide 1 by clicking a CLEAR button located on Slide 2.

What I did is to create a Trigger, then upon clicking the CLEAR button, it will set the value of the variable assigned to the data entry field to (blank).

Whenever I run the project, it does not do what it is supposed to do.

  • Hi, John Michael, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes! ✨

I recorded a very short Peek 360 video showing you the steps I would take on clearing a variable with a button on a different slide as the TextEntry field.

What is the behavior you are experiencing in your project?

I would be glad to take a look at your specific project if you feel comfortable sharing your .story file in this discussion. I’m sure others in the community might be able to offer suggestions as well.

  • Hi Team,

    Hope everyone doing good.

I have created a quiz with multiple text entry fields. But  previous data was saving in text entry fields while revisiting.

Please guide me how to not to show any previous data in the text entry fields.

    Thanks in advance. Stay safe.

Adding screenshot for better understanding. Correct answers is R51 but it stored all my  previous attempts data.

Hello Raju, and welcome to E-Learning Heroes! ⭐️

Thanks for including that helpful screenshot. It sounds like you see previously entered data when revisiting a quiz. Happy to look into this with you!

It sounds like this could be related to the browser autofill settings, which can't be changed from the Storyline file.

    • Could you share what browser you see this behavior in? Chrome, Edge?

I'm staying tuned for your response so we can continue troubleshooting together!

      Hello again, Raju!

Thanks for sharing those extra details. If you change the autofill settings in each browser, does that make a difference? Here's how to do that in Chrome and Edge.

If you still see this behavior after you edit those settings, it would help share your file in a case here so one of our support engineers can help get to the bottom of this with you!

  • Becca,

Yes, autofill option in the browsers are saving the data. After disabled that option, its not storing the data.

    Thanks for your timely support.
