Character Issue on Layer
Hello - Thanks to David Anderson for the great video 3 Easy Ways to Use Custom Avatars in Articulate Storyline 360. I have tried this technique in attached file but am having troubles on slide 1.3 Gossip Question > Feedback 3 layer. The Character Correct states look fine in design mode but when I preview the slides, it does not display properly. It seems to pull the character state from the Base Layer instead of layer Feedback 3 (even though I named the objects and states differently). Any suggestions?
I've updated Storyline (360 x 64 v3.105.35604.0), rebooted my laptop (Windows 10 Enterprise), and inserted a new character from scratch onto the layer but no joy.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Tracy
Thank you Luciana and Nathan for your replies below, much appreciated. My apologies for not showing you what I was seeing in my original post🤦‍♀️ I'm unable to launch Peek right now (an issue I'll deal with separately) but have attached a PDF containing some screen shots of what the issue was (it occurred in both Preview and when published to Review 360). Interesting that neither of you saw the same. It was helpful to know that the basics of what I had done was correct since it displayed properly for you.
In the meantime, I was able to fix the problem by deleting character from layer Feedback 3, inserting new character Demond, creating states for each character, and manually creating the triggers (see attached .story file). The only differences from what I had done before were a) Demond instead of Phoebe, Iris, or Claire and b) manually creating the triggers instead of copying from the Base Layer. Not sure why that worked but, as long as it did, I don't care! Thanks again for your help.

Hello TLD,
I'm so glad that you created a project file based on David's video! If I understand correctly, you are testing your course in Preview and are unable to see the correct state for all characters on that slide. I opened your course and can view the correct character states in Preview.
- You mentioned inserting a new character. What was the name of the new character you inserted into your course?
- I'm curious if this happens in Review 360. Have you published your course to see if this behavior is also happening in Review?
- Do you notice any change if you import your current project into a brand new .story file, and then preview your course?
We'd be happy to take a closer look at a screen recording of this behavior in action. Feel free to share in this thread or privately in a support case.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

When you preview, or when you publish? Published, I had no issues with the character swapping on any slide or layer. Previewed, there were issues but previewing sometimes breaks functionality when things depend on changing variables, states or timeline triggers. If your issue is only related to previewing, then I wouldn't worry about it and just publish to check things.
The only real issue I had with the preview was if replay was selected, then the state changes were not triggered because the timeline triggers do not seem to fire as expected on replay. This is an issue on many projects. Otherwise, it seemed to work as expected, at least on my machine.
