Combine Separate Projects into One Project Keeping Triggers and Quiz Results

We developed eight separate projects with final assessments and quiz results slides that need to be combined into one large project. We are having issues with the quiz results slides working after the projects are combined. Also, the project is large, with videos and lots of interactivity. Making changes and saving them is taking a very long time, making it very frustrating to edit. Sometimes the changes made are not reflected in the preview, and the project has to be saved, closed and reopened to continue with edits.

Being relatively new to Storyline, I am looking for best practice to combine these projects with the least amount of trigger breakage and quiz results slides issues.

The modules will be put into Canvas for delivery to learners. Any sage advice would be greatly appreciated, because of course I am on a deadline.

P.S. All the projects worked when they were separate projects, and much easier to edit.

  • Results slides can be finicky, because they contain built-in variables. Storyline creates the needed variables when you insert a new Results slide. However, variables can get mixed up when copying-and-pasting, duplicating, or importing a Results slide.

In the past, you would need to delete the current Results slides, and create new ones.

But, since Storyline added the Name field to Quiz Settings, you can usually fix the problem by renaming the Results. Also, be sure the triggers refer to the variables with that Name.

Combining projects that contain custom variables can also cause issues. So good QA testing would check that references remain intact.

By the way, be aware of how Storyline submits results and completion status to an LMS. It is possible to use more than one Final Assessment to track completion. However, Storyline submits the results from the first assessment that the user finishes. At that point, the course is marked as complete in the LMS. So you might need to track with a Results slide that calculates results based on other Results slides.
