Continue buttons disappear in Rise 360

Hi there all! I am getting support calls regarding an eLearning in Rise 360, and have been able to re-produce the issue myself. When a learner navigates to a block they have already completed, the continue buttons disappear from the navigation and forces them to go to the menu to navigate back to where they were. This is confusing for the learner and not very user friendly. Has anyone else experienced this and is there a solution for it?

    Hi,

What you are seeing is expected behavior.

Continue buttons will only appear the first time the student completes a Rise Lesson.

  • Hi Karl, thank you for explaining this feature!

But regarding our customers, I guess it would be good, if the continue buttons would exist constantly.

So there should be at least an option, wether this behaviour is wanted or not.

  • I would also like to see the "Continue" buttons continue to exist when a user revisits a page. It seems that the assumption with Rise is that users will intuitively know to scroll down, like it's a webpage, but this is not the case. With the exception of Rise 360 e-learnings, no other e-learnings uploaded to our Cornerstone catalog require the user to scroll down to engage with the content. Additionally, we want to make our e-learnings as user friendly as possible for ALL users, regardless of comfort with technology, and the "Continue" button at the bottom of a screen (especially in the stepped Microlearning) is a terrific means of providing the user with clear direction on how to access the next slide in the training.

A more pressing issue I have found is that if I revisit the previous slide then return to the most recent slide that I was on, the "Continue" button will disappear, but the down arrow will not move me to the next slide, and I have to click where "Continue" used to be but no longer is. So we end up with an invisible continue button, and a training that won't progress until it is clicked. This is a significant issue folks. I'd be happy to walk anyone through this on my computer.

We're you all able to resolve the "invisible" continue button issue? We are seeing this intermittently on microlearning Rise courses and it's creating a lot of support issues.

AmberPope-8bdfa Any chance you ever figured out what was causing your buttons to turn "invisible"? I'm struggling with this now.

Fingers crossed this message reaches you out there in the vast internet!

  • Hi Amber, according to my impression, it is not an "issue". Speaking for myself, I understood, that it is an intended and desired behavior in the eyes of Articulate.

But in the eyes of the users (again: speaking for myself) the wish is, that this behavior would be questioned and hopefully changed, so that the Continue-Button stays permanently, even if it has been visited by the viewer.

If the behavior isn't changed completely in this way, there should be an option, in which the user can choose, how the button shall behave.

The Continue button also acts as a Divider and a header. If it disappears, it is literally useless - forcing the course designer to add another divider and header and defeating the purpose of the continue button. This issue seems to keep cropping up here but no engagement from Articulate acknowledging the feedback.

Hello NK-N-Somerset! This is helpful feedback that I will share with our Product team! The intention of the Continue block is to control the pace of learning so people don’t get hit with all the content at once. It acts like a friendly gatekeeper, making sure learners engage with key content before moving on so they can absorb information in manageable chunks. When content is already populated after the Continue button, it is expected to disappear. With that in mind, I can see how it would be helpful to have it also be used as a consistent divider and header. Perhaps a toggle button to set the behavior of the Continue button would be sufficient. I'll keep you updated with what our Product team thinks!

  • I wanted to add my voice to this conversation! We have had a lot of learners left very confused by disappearing Continue buttons that only appear the first time they're interacted with. I understand that this is an intentional feature, but it's one that is continually flagged as an issue by our instructional design team, reviewers, and learners. I've noticed that there have been several threads over several years on this issue in the forum, and I'm curious if Rise has any plans to remediate this with what seems like a very simple fix (course builders can toggle "hide CONTINUE button after first click" on or off). Is Articulate planning to address this issue? Or have you all determined it's low enough priority that, despite customer and learner feedback, it's going to remain unaddressed?
