Copy/paste issue between PowerPoint and Storyline 360

Hello everyone,

We are experiencing a major issue when copying and pasting text between Microsoft PowerPoint and Storyline 360

Text copied from PowerPoint does not paste correctly into Storyline, although it pastes normally into other applications.

(A copied PowerPoint text box is converted into an SVG image when pasted into Storyline.)

The problem seems to be specific to PowerPoint, as copy/paste works correctly between Storyline 360 and tools like Notepad.
It occurs on multiple PCs and started after the latest update. (09.04)

Has anyone else encountered this problem, or found a workaround?
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

  • Hi JohannaDASIL642,

I'm happy to share that we've just released another update for Storyline 360!

In Build 3.115.36688.0, we’ve included essential fixes and new features. One of the bugs we’ve fixed is:

    • The inability to copy/paste text directly from PowerPoint to Storyline.

Launch the Articulate 360 desktop app on your computer to take advantage of this update, and click the Update button next to Storyline 360. You can find our step-by-step instructions here.

Please let us know if you need any additional help!

  • It sounds like you're selecting the entire text box in PPT, copying it, and then pasting it. That does paste it into Storyline as an SVG.

You need to select the text within the text box in PPT, copy that, and then paste it into a text box or shape in Storyline.

FYI: When you have text in the clipboard, the Paste button includes options for pasting: Use Destination Theme, Keep Source Formatting, or Keep Text Only.

  • There does seem to be an issue with copying and pasting from PPT. Support has communicated that they are tracking this.  It works as expected in SL version 3.113

  • Hi JohannaDASIL642,

Thanks for walking through what you’re seeing here, that’s helpful context.

JudyNollet is spot on in how Storyline typically handles this. When copying an entire text box from PowerPoint, it can come through as an object like an SVG, whereas selecting just the text usually allows it to paste as editable content.

That said, I also want to confirm what RonPrice shared. There is a known issue in the latest update (version 3.114) where copying and pasting text directly from PowerPoint into Storyline isn’t working as expected, and our team is actively tracking it.

In this case, a reliable workaround is to paste the text into another program first, like Notepad or Word, and then copy it again into Storyline. That extra step helps ensure the text pastes correctly.

We’re continuing to track this behavior, and I appreciate you calling it out here since it helps reinforce the impact.
