Cue Points Not Working Correctly in Video
Hi,
I loaded a video into Storyline 360 and created some layers for review activities for certain points in the video. I have it set so the video stops and a review activity shows when the timeline gets to cue point 1. In the activity, I have it set to return to cue point 2 when the activity is done. For some reason, it is going to cue point 1 instead of 2. I've attached a picture of the layer's triggers to show the order the triggers are set.

It sounds like the trigger to jump to cue point 2 might not be firing correctly or is being overridden. Double-check that the trigger on the review activity’s completion explicitly jumps to cue point 2 and that it’s set to execute after the activity finishes. Also, ensure there are no conflicting triggers that reset the video to cue point 1. Sometimes trigger order matters—try moving the “jump to cue point 2” trigger lower in the stack or adding a slight delay before the jump. If you can share the trigger setup screenshot, I can help pinpoint the issue.

Hi! Thank you for getting back to me. I attached the trigger set up screenshot in my initial post - is that what you're asking for?
Hi TammyPrewitt,
I understand you want learners to review activities at certain points in a video and then continue the media where they left off, but the cue points and triggers aren’t working as expected. I created a sample file that accomplishes this. Let me walk you through my setup!
1. I inserted a video from our Content Library into my Base Layer.
2. I added cue points on the Timeline for where I'd like my layer to display and pause the video.
3. I then created a Slide Layer. In that layer, I added text and images with AI Assistant, inserted a button, and renamed the button Back.
4. Let's talk triggers! In the Triggers Panel, I inserted two triggers.
- The first trigger on the Base Layer tells Storyline to open the layer at the desired cue point.
- The second trigger is on the Slide Layer and navigates back to the Base Layer.
5. I adjusted the Slide Layer Properties (gear icon in the bottom right corner) when on my Slide Layer. These settings allow the video to start right where we left off!
- I checked:
- Hide other slide layers
- Hide objects on base layer, and
- Pause timeline of base layer.
6. Finally, I modified the Player Properties to include the Seekbar for learners.
Here's a quick visual where I walk through my sample project file. I'll attach the .story file in my reply!
If you're still having trouble with the cue point navigation in your course, or are looking for something different, I'd be happy to take a closer look at your setup! You can share your project file in this thread or privately in a support case.
Looking forward to hearing from you!

Hello Tammy,
I don’t have any suggestions unfortunately, but I’m experiencing the same issue. The first layer cue point works fine — I’ve added a video and set questions to pop up on different layers at certain cue points. However, from the second layer onwards, it’s not working as expected. It keeps taking me back to the first layer instead of the base slide where the cue point triggers are.
It’s quite frustrating, especially because I was really excited to learn about this cool feature!
If you find any solution, please let me know.
Many thanks
