Resume State Not Working Correctly in Storyline 360
Hi,
I have a test that people only get two attempts to pass, published as SCORM 1.2. If a person fails the first time and then closes the test, I have the property set to Always Resume so the test opens on the results screen where they can click Retry Quiz to take their second attempt. I have this set up like this in many tests. For some reason, the test I'm now trying to finalize, when it opens, it opens to a random feedback screen. I've compared the properties to a test that I know is working correctly, and I don't see what is wrong. I'm testing in SCORM Cloud.
When I published as SCORM 2004, it doesn't "remember" the first attempt when I fail and close the test. It opens on the title page instead of the results page, and it doesn't max out at two failed attempts. However, if I fail and then choose the Retry Quiz button (instead of closing), it tracks the first attempt and doesn't let them try again after they fail a second time.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?
Thank you!

Which version of SCORM 2004 are you publishing as?
If you aren't already, I'd suggest using the 4th edition to give yourself a better chance that the suspend data isn't causing you a problem.

How do I check the SCORM 2004 version? I checked the IMS Manifest, and it says:
<metadata>
<schema>ADL SCORM</schema>
<schemaversion>CAM 1.3</schemaversion>
<adlcp:location>metadata.xml</adlcp:location>
Also - all of the quizzes that I have set up like this are published as SCORM 1.2, and work. I had originally set this one up as SCORM 1.2, and when it didn't work, I decided to try SCORM 2004, but that also doesn't work. I'm going to try rebuilding it to see if there might be a "bug" in the file.

Hi TammyPrewitt,
That definitely sounds frustrating! Since you’ve already compared settings with a working file, a few things you might check:
- Slide triggers and navigation: Make sure the results slide is set as the “initial scene” and that no stray triggers or revisiting settings are directing users to another slide on resume.
- Resume data limits (SCORM 1.2): SCORM 1.2 has a smaller suspend data limit, which can cause resume issues — especially in longer courses. If that’s the case, switching to SCORM 2004 (3rd or 4th edition) usually fixes it.
- LMS resume behavior: In SCORM Cloud, double-check “Always resume” is set to Prompt to Resume or Always Resume and that caching isn’t interfering.
If none of that helps, try importing your slides into a new Storyline file — sometimes that resets any corrupted navigation or results logic.
Hope that helps you get it sorted!
