Easy way to update version number of software in training modules

Hi, I was wondering if anyone has any ideas.

We generate about 40 modules for our software.

The software gets updated regularly and so we update our eLearning material to reflect the version number on the first page of the module (e.g., v1.1)

We also have url links stores in the resources tab that change with the version e.g.

Old http://mysoftware/v1.1/link.html
new http://mysoftware/v1.2/link.html

Instead of editing every single module, is there a way to dynamically change all the values in Storyline? My idea is a variable in Storyline that reads a file containing the version number in the root directory of all 40 Storyline files.

Then, once you compile the Storyline file it reads the text file and generates the output with the updated version number.

Has anyone tried/achieved this before?
Or is there a simpler solution?
