Thanks Sarah! My group is trying to reorient our training toward driving learner practice. So that usually means coming up with a realistic job scenario and letting the learners work through its relevant aspects from start to finish. Some things we're trying to emphasize include:
- Asking a lot of questions whose answer choices are ACTIONS (e.g., "What do you want to do next?") or EVALUATIONS (e.g., "Jim wants to add his lock and tag to the isolation now. Is that OK?")
- Maintaining strong context by, for example, letting a photograph of the job site fill the entire screen in the background, so the learner feels immersed in the space
- Encouraging learners to practice using the job aids we provide by integrating them directly into the course
